Past project: Belconnen Soccer Club:

A high quality sports facility in close proximity to Mount Stromlo Observatory and also in close proximity to a major road.

The sports field floodlighting is designed to provide AAA rating for soccer so that it can qualify as a training facility for future World Cup events. The lighting design is arranged such that multiple switching levels switch the field down to local competition and match practice levels as required whilst maintaining very high lighting uniformity. In addition the facility provides for hockey practice both full field and switching into two separate half fields. This flexibility provides opportunity for maximum financial viability for the club.

The floodlight type was selected and aimed to ensure no direct upward light spill with respect to the Observatory and to limit any light spill close to the boundaries of the complex to avoid future issues with housing estate developments in the neighbourhood. Also the floodlighting as designed and installed minimises the perceived brightness of any floodlight by adjacent motorists.

This design approach guaranteed the most energy efficient solution for this sporting complex.
