Past project: STAR Project Reflection Profile:
A new all glass façade was proposed for Project STAR in Pyrmont facing Darling Harbour. The multi-storey proposals incorporated mostly fixed glazing with some small areas of adjustable panels. The objective was to assess the potential impacts of reflected solar glare to motorists, pedestrians, water taxis’ and ferries. Part of the objective included assessment of the impact to adjacent residential developments on the wharfs and reflection towards Sydney central business district.
Three separate façade designs were proposed over a period of time and each was assessed for its potential impact. The earlier proposals included inclined façade angles with sweeping curves in plan. The third solution uses vertical glazing with large pivot panels referred to as flags.
The result is a glass façade achieving the client’s objectives and reduced potential disability glare from solar reflection to the Darling harbour area.
